Our Mission
Japan has over 27,000 registered hot spring sources and thousands of onsen facilities β yet finding one that openly welcomes guests with tattoos, offers day-use access, or has the specific amenities you need remains surprisingly difficult, especially if you don't read Japanese.
Discover Onsen solves that problem. We've built a searchable directory with clear information on tattoo policies, facility types, amenities, and access details β available in eight languages, curated for the needs of international travellers.

arpitjain.fyi βArpit is an independent developer and builder who created Discover Onsen because he wanted a better way for foreign visitors to navigate Japan's onsen culture. What started as a personal tool for trip planning grew into a comprehensive public directory covering tens of thousands of facilities across every prefecture in Japan.
He built the entire stack β scraper, translation pipeline, and web directory β and continues to maintain and improve it. Feedback, corrections, and partnership inquiries are always welcome.
